Many of you might have noticed that sometimes the iPhone's message ringtone rings twice or stutters when you get a message. This happens with iMessages and Whatsapp for me, it could happen with other applications too. I have been looking for a fix for this since a long time and recently I was contacted by SoundShikari on twitter who tipped us on a fix for this problem. So big thanks to him for sending this in.

At this point we are not sure what's causing this problem. SoundShikari's simple solution was to add a 120 millisecond delay to the ringtone in the beginning so it doesn't cause the stutter or ring twice. Genius.

Fix double message ringtone or stutter for non-jailbroken iPhone

Import the .m4r fixed Tri-tone ringtone to iTunes.

Once imported into iTunes, sync that ringtone over to the iPhone and select it as your text alert.

Done. (Please note that this will only fix the stutter or double ringtone for message alerts, not Whatsapp. Jailbreak is required for Whatsapp ringtone fix)

Replace sms-received1.caf with the one you downloaded from above in System / Libraby / Audio / UIsounds. Make sure you backup the original tone. This should fix the stutter or double ringtone in messages.

For Whatsapp, replace Tri-tone.caf with the one you downloaded from above in User / Applications / xxx / Whatsapp (xxx will be the application folder). Make sure you backup the original tone.

You can rename the tone and place it in other applications that have the same problem.
